Our Origin

A group absolutely identified with the present and future that underpins its successful current operation with a 65-year history in the Argentine financial market.

Balanz Capital’s senior management team has an extensive track record in Argentina’s financial market, and we have built strong and deep teams across our business units to be able to provide the best service to capitalize on the new future for Argentina.

Balanz Capital was launched in 2002 after the Argentine financial crisis with an eye towards serving a market that needed more efficient solutions for asset management and securities trading. The founders included a group of core shareholders with vast expertise in money management and financial intermediation. Among them, the current shareholders Claudio Porcel, Isabel Pita, Juan Carlos Bernardez and Octavio Bernardez continue to lead Balanz Capital’s management team.

Previously, the Porcel family had founded, together with other shareholders, Liniers Banco Sudamericano in 1995, and they positioned this financial institution as one of the top 5 players in credit card market. This bank was acquired by Deutsche Bank in 1999. The Porcel family also founded Argencard (Argentina’s licensee for MasterCard), and it expanded this business steadily to seize a 50% market share of credit cards with 10 million cards issued. In 2006, Argencard was acquired by First Data Corporation.
